What is Reflexology?

What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a complementary therapy which accesses the body by applying pressure to reflex points held in the feet, hands, legs face and ears. The organs and structures of the body are, for example, mapped out across 10 zones, 5 in each foot. Reflexology uses the same meridians and lines as acupuncture and shares the same aim of unblocking energy to improve health and wellbeing.

We quizzed Annette Stoker, Cotswold Academy Tutor, for a basic understanding of what reflexology is and how it works and feels.

To quote the Association of Reflexologists (AOR)...

Reflexology is a non-invasive complementary health therapy that can be effective in promoting deep relaxation and wellbeing; by reducing stress in people’s lives can be key in optimising good health and building resilience. It is a touch therapy that is based on the theory that different points on the feet, lower leg, hands, face or ears correspond with different areas of the body and reflexologists work these points and areas.

Thinking of studying Reflexology?

If you are thinking of training as a Reflexologist you may find the following information helpful.

Whether you chose to study with us or elsewhere a key piece of information you need to determine is whether your qualification enables you to gain insurance, work as a professional reflexologist and join the recognised professional bodies and organisations.

For example as a reflexologist it is essential that your training is recognised by the Association of Reflexologists (AOR) and the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC) - vital if you wish to practice reflexology within the NHS.
