Graduate Stories...Emma Dicker

Cotswold Academy Graduate Story

Emma Dicker, ITEC Level 3 Diploma in Aromatherapy

What was your reason for studying/ changing careers?

Before studying my first Diploma in massage with Cotswold Academy, I worked three jobs to make ends meet and impacted my health and well-being. I struggled with stress and anxiety, which led me to burnout.

During this time, I was having a range of Holistic treatments, which I found highly beneficial for my physical and mental well-being as it gave me a chance to stop, relax and recharge.

I became fascinated by holistic well-being treatments and wanted to learn more. I found the Cotswold Academy 7 years ago, and I have not looked back. I have now completed all of the Holistic Diplomas and CPD'S. I am incredibly grateful for finding the Academy, as studying with them completely changed my life and lifestyle.

What did you enjoy most about learning with us?

I have done pretty much all of my training at the Academy. It's by far the best; the small groups mean that the tutors have time to support you until you feel confident. They have so much knowledge and experience. I also love the fact that each time I go back, I still feel like part of the Academy family.

How have you used your training since?

Since studying at the Academy, I now run a successful practice from my home, which has enabled me to choose the hours I work and, most importantly, take time for my own health and well-being.

During the lockdown, I managed to run workshops online for my clients. I've also designed and published two well-being planners on Amazon, which have been a great aid to help women with their self-care.

After recently completing my Aromatherapy Diploma, I have now set up an online natural product business focusing on self-care for busy women. This runs alongside and complements my therapies business.

What are your plans and aspirations going forwards?

In the future, I would like to set up a well-being centre - a place where clients can come for treatment's, holistic based exercise, workshops, and products. For now, I am focusing on growing my online business.

What is your biggest challenge for the year ahead?

My biggest challenge for the year ahead is the uncertainty of Covid and having an ever-growing business that is slowly taking over my house! Hopefully, in the new year, I plan to create a new space for my treatment when things are more settled.

What are you looking forward to most?

I always look forward to the future in my business and how it adapts to changing times and needs.

Even though Covid financially made things difficult, it gave me time to see how important it was to have a plan and to invest time in working on my business instead of in my business; having this time has opened so many more doors for me.

I find working on new opportunities exciting, and I think there is so much growth still to come for this industry as people are looking for natural and alternative ways to look after themselves.
