Back to Basics: Fire Horse or No Fire Horse

There’s a lot of noise about this being the Year of the Fire Horse.

In Chinese astrology, the Horse symbolises movement, independence and momentum. The Fire element adds visibility, action and boldness.

It all sounds powerful.

But what if you’re not feeling powerful?

What if the start of this year has felt slow, uncertain or slightly jammed?

For many therapists and business owners, it’s felt exactly that way. A bit cloggy. Like things aren’t flowing properly. And when that happens, it’s easy to assume you’ve “missed the energy.”

You haven’t.

You don’t miss a year.

You don’t miss momentum.

And your success doesn’t depend on catching a cosmic wave at exactly the right moment.

Sometimes it’s less about galloping…

and more about clearing the path.

Maybe It’s Not About Forcing the Fire

When things feel stuck, our instinct is often to push harder.

More ideas.

More posts.

More doing.

But forward movement doesn’t always come from force.

Sometimes it comes from opening.

Opening yourself up to possibility.

Opening your diary to one new idea.

Opening your thinking to what might work.

You can chip away.

You can build steadily.

You won’t miss your moment.

But you do need direction.

Back to Basics: The Next Six Months

Instead of thinking about the whole year, shrink the timeframe.

Ask yourself:

Where do I want to be by the summer?

Not in theory.

Not in fantasy.

In practical, grounded terms.

  • How many regular clients would feel stable?
  • Do you want to be offering something new?
  • What income level would reduce stress?
  • How do you want your weeks to feel?
  • What would “steady and progressing” look like?

Six months is enough time to create meaningful change.

The Question That Matters Most

What will actually make an impact?

Not what looks impressive.

Not what everyone else is doing.

Not what feels busy.

What genuinely moves the needle?

For example:

  • If you want more consistent clients, is it actually about improving your website… or about building stronger referral relationships… or thinking about how to get in front of your people?
  • If you want better retention, is it about marketing… or about reviewing your client journey?

One or two key actions done consistently will outperform ten scattered ones.

Fire Horse or No Fire Horse

The energy of the year doesn’t have to be the only thing you reply on to create momentum.

Clarity creates momentum.

Consistency does.

Action, even small action, does.

If things feel cloggy, don’t panic.

Clear one thing.

Decide one direction.

Commit to one meaningful shift.

And then chip away.

Momentum builds quietly before it becomes visible.

You don’t have to feel on fire to move forward.

You just need a plan and the willingness to keep showing up for it.
