This ITEC Level 3 Diploma in Massage is designed to teach a complete beginner up to professional level in Holistic/ Swedish style Massage.

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be a professional massage therapist and will be able to gain insurance to practice upon the general public and gain membership of professional associations.
You will be able to practice massage professionally in the UK and other parts of the world, learning the skills to build a successful practice in a variety of environments, for example:

  • In your own private practice, as a self-employed practitioner.

  • In a salon, clinic, health club, spa or hotel.

  • In the NHS, hospice or other healthcare setting.

Syllabus Details

Unit 380: Provide Body Massage for Complementary Therapies

Classes are taught in small groups, using talks, lectures, visuals and detailed practical demonstration. Students work closely with the tutor learning not only the techniques but also how to protect themselves from the strain and stress while carrying out body therapy.


You will learn

  • Full body massage using following techniques – effleurage, petrissage, percussions including hacking, cupping, beating, pounding, tapotement.

  • Treatment environment and working area

  • Therapist appearance and behaviour

  • Client care and preparation

  • Client consultations including contraindications and restrictions

  • Reflective practice

 


Assignment 1: Unit 384 Principles and Practice of Complementary Therapies

Identify and explain the origins and principles of 4 other complementary therapies.

 

Unit 383: Knowledge of Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology for Complementary Therapies:

Class sessions are split between A&P theory and Practical work. You will spend the first part of your class lessons learning the following:

Knowledge of the structure & function of all systems of the body:

  • Organisation of the Body including Cells

  • Skin, Hair & Nails

  • Skeletal

  • Muscular

  • Nervous/ Neurological

  • Endocrine

  • Respiratory

  • Circulatory/Cardiovascular

  • Lymphatic

  • Digestive

  • Urinary

  • Reproductive

  • Diseases and Disorders of each system


Assignment 2: Unit 385 Business Practice for Complementary Therapies

Plan and prepare an appropriate business plan for a potential complementary therapy practice


Assessment Criteria: 

You will be required to complete a number of treatments/case studies at home after/during your course and supply the evidences of these. You will then return to the Academy to sit your final exams usually 1-3 months after your course contact days. 

  • 16 x Case studies (Treatment Evidences: 8 people x 2 times )

  • Plus 20 massage treatments logged in consultation forms

  • 2 x Assignments (Unit 384 & 385)

  •  Anatomy & Physiology Theory paper- 50 questions multiple choice

  • Practical Exam (usually 2-4 months after the course contact days)

  • You will be required to sit a “mock” practical exam, usually 2-3 weeks before the “real” practical exam. This is to allow you a practice run, and for your tutor to give you feedback on areas to work on.


Entrance Requirements: 

No previous experience necessary.

Already have an Anatomy and Physiology qualification? 

If a student already holds a recognisable qualification in Anatomy & Physiology you can potentially join us just for the Massage part of the course (Afternoons) and RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) for the A&P Unit 383. We may also be able to RPL for Unit 384 and 385 if these assignments have been completed as part of another Level 3 QCF qualification. The qualification must have been completed in the last 5 years and ITEC must give written confirmation of Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). There is a fee of £35+vat.  Please note, if you apply for a unit to be RPL'd, you will only be able to receive a Pass mark for your overal course mark. Please get in contact to begin the RPL process or check if your qualification is eligible.

Attendance class times are half of the day in this case i.e. 1pm – 4.00pm (or 7.30pm-9pm for evening course).

Please note: You will return after the course contact days to take your exams- usually 1-2 months later so as to give you time to complete your Case Studies and Assignment work.

Fast Track:

This course requires attendance Monday – Friday for two consecutive weeks.

A 25% deposit is payable immediately to secure your place on receipt of your invoice, with the remaining balance due at least 4 weeks prior to the start of your course.
