How to use Myofascial Cupping in our fight against rounded shoulders; Upper Trap & Deltoid

Watch Chris Phillips, Principal of the Cotswold Academy & Myofascial Cupping Tutor, demonstrate how to use Myofascial Cupping to improve range of movement and relieve stiffness and tension in the shoulders.

We wanted to put together a demonstration of how Myofascial Cupping can be used to tackle one of the most common complaints we see in our clinics.

Our focus here is on rounded shoulders. This is an area that is always a challenge for us. Chronically tight due to lifestyle, stress, exercise, desk-working, mobile phone use and the list of how modern life rounds our shoulders and changes our posture is endless!

There is an incredibly intimate relationship between the Deltoid & Trapezius. These two muscle groups share the bony attachments of the clavicle, acromion and spine of the scapula, therefore if either become tightened or reactive to postural dysfunction (rounded shoulders) one or both of them will react. This creates pain in localised areas, or referred pain up into the neck and head or down the arm.

We wanted to demonstrate how Myofascial Cupping tackles this head on whilst relieving the therapists hands and thumbs in releasing this tension.

Cupping is at it's most useful when we embed it into our treatments combining muscle lengthening techniques (MET), triggerpoint therapy and our every day intuitive hand skills. It can stand alone, alongside holistic massage techniques or including our sports massage techniques in response to postural assessment.
