Massage techniques to unlock and relieve stress & tension held in the neck & shoulders

During this period of lockdown we are all carrying some added stress and tension with one of the first places this manifests being our necks and shoulders.

Here Chris, Principal of the Academy & Sports Massage Therapist, talks us through finding and identifying the key muscles we can work on and follows this with some simple techniques we can use to release tension and unlock stresses by working with the fascia and muscles.

Lets start with an introduction to the muscles and bones of the shoulder.

Now we have an idea of the anatomy let’s get started with some massage techniques to help relieve stress and tension in the shoulders.

These techniques are aimed at qualified therapists although even those not qualified can take part and try some gentle techniques on loved ones but as ever please take care and err on the side of caution always. Take your time and work with the idea that less is more, communicate continuously with the person you are massaging. Even if you just pick out the parts that make the person feel held.

So there we have it, some simple ways that you can get hands on, maintain your hand skills and really start to make a difference to those around you.
