Taking it to the next Level in Sports Massage; Level 4 Sports Massage

Are your clients returning with recurrent issues and treatments are relieving yet not resolving the issue? Being in a place where you are left with more questions than you have answers for or not seeing the results you want as quickly as you'd like is a great indicator that you are ready to progress your training.

Level 4 unlocks a whole host of more advanced tests and techniques to equip you with the understanding and techniques to change people's lives.

Level 4 is all about gathering the story of what has brought your client to see you and being equipped to push that information forward into a treatment that effects real and lasting change. For us the answer to what Level 4 gives you is three key elements... drumroll please!

  1. Reading the body and assessing where to start each treatment. We take postural assessment to a higher plane. Level four guides you to read the body and be able to pinpoint the origin of dysfunction. Being able to notice curvature in the spine, rotation in the pelvis and additionally how the body is compensating for issues held in different areas. If we have an injury where will that radiate out to and cause secondary issues throughout the body.
  2. A deeper understanding of fascia and how fascia slings through the body and how tightness and pain in one area can be attributed to dysfunction elsewhere in the body. When there is an imbalance in the body it will often have a 'knock-on' effect elsewhere as other muscles start to overcompensate.
  3. In addition Level 4 unlocks some real heavyweight techniques and tests such as Muscle Energy Techniques (MET) and Soft Tissue Release (STR). These techniques enable you to release deep fascial tension and regain incredible range of movement for your clients and the results of treatments will become longer lasting.

These two factors combine to strengthen the most dynamic part of being a soft tissue therapist for us - NOT CHASING THE PAIN! No longer just rubbing where it hurts but working intelligently and knowing how pain is referred through the body. This enables you to affect real and lasting change for your clients. Being able to notice these referral patterns and being armed with the advanced techniques to finally unlock the issues then you will change people's lives.

Alternative options for Holistic Massage Therapists and Aromatherapists

For massage therapists not trained in sports massage techniques who are interested in learning new soft tissue therapy techniques to provide targeted relief to clients complaints we offer the following courses.

Trigger Point Therapy can offer hugely beneficial and relatively fast relief from pain and tightness for clients by releasing the troublesome taut bands (often described by clients as ‘knot’s) within the soft tissue that can cause direct localised pain and/or referred myofascial pain.

Our Clinical Anatomy and Advanced Massage course offers a greater understanding of the applied anatomy behind the most common chronic pain for clients and teaches the most effective, efficient, and advanced techniques to use.

We have also shared some tutorials on how you can use massage with movement to aid the lengthening of muscles and improve range of movement for clients here.
