Sports & Remedial Massage BTEC Diploma

Sports Massage is the term applied to the discipline of using massage for the specific benefit of all sports and exercise participants. It covers the management, manipulation and rehabilitation of the soft tissues of the body e.g. muscles, ligaments and tendons.

With the ever growing number of people taking part in sport, combined with the increasing competitiveness and intensity of physical exercise, the demand for sports massage is also increasing and becoming more and more recognised as a skill which may aid recovery and enhance performance.

Sports massage should be tailored to each individual’s needs, to positively enhance ones ability to perform.

The benefits of sports massage:

• Improve circulation & lymphatic flow
• Assist in the removal of metabolic waste
• Sedate or stimulate nerve endings
• Increase or decrease muscle tone
• Increase or decrease muscle length
• Remodel scar tissue when required
• Assist in mental preparation for sporting participation

Career prospects:

Many of our students have set up their own practices working with & affiliated to their local sports clubs i.e. football, rugby, hockey, tennis & leisure clubs. As a deep tissue / sports masseur, you can work in conjunction with physiotherapists, chiropractors & osteopaths.

BTEC Professional Diploma in Sport & Remedial Massage

This course includes advanced remedial massage techniques and evaluation skills. These skills enable the therapist to apply their techniques safely and effectively, on an extensive range of clients.

The Qualification is externally validated by BTEC (Edexcel) which is the national awarding body for vocational education and training (the BTEC Diploma awarded is equivalent to NVQ Level 4).
